Definition: A stream, brook, beck, burn or creek, is a body of water with a detectable current, confined within a bed and banks. Stream is also an umbrella term used in the scientific community for all flowing natural waters, regardless of size. The study of streams and waterways in general is known as surface hydrology and is important in environmental geography or environmental geology.

Streams always capture the attention of anyone who is fortunate enough to see one. People will travel long distances into wilderness just to see a stream or waterfall. The beauty and feeling of inspiration cannot be imagined. The most obvious impact of adding a stream to a pond is emphasizing the overall size and feeling of the water feature. A flowing stream ties everything together and looks more natural than a waterfall and pond alone.
One benefit a stream provides is added filtration. Water flowing over gravel is a natural filtering process. The highly oxygenated water flowing over the gravel supports large numbers of beneficial bacteria. Whenever possible, we recommend a stream be added to your pond.
- Emphasizes overall size of water feature
- Provides added filtration
- Allows you to spread out excavated soil away from pond border. Placing bermed soil away from edge of pond, helps water feature blend into it’s surrounding
